Unified ERP or custom build? How to choose
Teams often ask us for "a custom system" when a configured ERP would serve them better — and occasionally the reverse. Here's the test we use.
Choose a unified ERP when
- Your processes are fairly standard (Sales, Inventory, HR, Accounting).
- You want proven modules that integrate out of the box.
- Speed to value matters more than bespoke workflows.
Choose a custom build when
- Your operation has workflows that genuinely defy standard tools.
- Integration with unusual hardware or partners is core to the business.
- The process is the competitive advantage.
Often, it's both
Many of our engagements pair a unified ERP backbone with custom modules where the business is genuinely different. Before you sign anything, you should see a visual prototype of the parts that matter most to you.
